Monday 24th February 2020                World Book Day Month

World Book Day Month - 27th February to 29th March 2020

Spreading the love of books and reading for pleasure,  both in school and at home.

Please support us in celebrating World Book Day Month!  World Book Day is a charity funded by publishers and booksellers in the UK & Ireland - the aim is to share a million stories nationally.

At Coombe Hill Infant School, we are aiming to share over 12,000 stories with the children in school this month as part of this national campaign to SHARE A MILLION STORIES nationally.  Every time we read to a class of 30 children, that’s thirty shares! As we share stories regularly throughout the day, we are confident we can reach our target. The children will be tracking their class’ progress on their Share-o-meter each week.

To spread this love of reading even further, please find attached your child’s very own “MY SHARE A MILLION STORIES READING RECORD”.  It’s simple, every time you share a story at home for 10 minutes or more, you tick or colour a stripe!

Also, as part of this celebration of reading, each child receives a token to swap for a FREE £1 book of their choice at a favourite bookseller.  Alternatively, the token can be used to get £1 off a book costing £2.99 or more. The token is valid from 27th February to 29th March 2020.

Take a look at the website www.worldbookday.com/share-a-million-stories on the Inspiration tab for ideas for outfits for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March! Come dressed up as a character from your favourite book - don’t forget to bring the book with you!

Many thanks,

Mrs Jakob - Reading Lead

Why is sharing stories so crucial?

“Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success - more than their family circumstances, more than parents’ educational background or their income.”

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development

“Sharing stories any time from breakfast till bedtime, for just 10 minutes a day, will have a lasting impact on every child’s future.”
